Mount Omuro Lift
Mount Omuro, with an elevation of 581m, is the newest volcano, believed to have been active about 5,000 years ago. It presents a beautiful silhouette in the center of the Izu Peninsula and has long been revered by local residents as a gentle sacred mountain, serving as a landmark for ships, a target for single-line fishing, and a place to fulfill wishes. The summit has a large, mortar-shaped crater, 70m deep, 300m in diameter, and 1,000m in circumference. The ridge offers a hiking course known as “Ohachimeguri” (circling the crater), providing splendid views of the beautiful natural scenery, including both the sea and mountains.
Especially noteworthy are Izu Oshima, where sacred fires burn, the Amagi Mountain Range, known from “The Izu Dancer,” Akiyoshi Fuji, and on clear days, the Southern Alps can also be seen.
